Bringing a bicycle on Swedish trains can be unpredictable.

From Örnsköldsvik to Linköping, the journey went without a hitch, but heading south toward Malmö, progress came to a halt.
The bicycle box was too large, and having paid for a ticket for the entire trip offered no solution.

Another train company was just as determined: no bicycles on board unless I paid SEK 2,400, or €216, for a private compartment… No way — not worth the money.

FlixBus allowed bicycles according to their travel policy on the internet, but the driver had other ideas…

“Bicycle too big…” and so on.

The next bus, VY Bus 4 You, had a different attitude, but I had to travel to Gothenburg instead and then continue to Copenhagen via Malmö.

From Gothenburg, I took a local train, the Öresundståg, which had carriages specifically for bicycles.

I arrived at Copenhagen Central Station a few minutes before midnight. I found a taxi that took me to my hotel, Danhostel Copenhagen City.

I had booked two nights at this 12-storey hostel, with a view over Langebro and Copenhagen Harbour. The hostel lies closed to city and tourist centra and also to trainstation.

The entrance and reception are nice and inviting, the staff friendly and service-oriented. Clean and fresh and best of all the rooms clean and tidy.

If you don’t like to spend a fortune on luxury hotels, Danhostel is a really good choice.

I do recommend Danhostel.

Before crawling under the covers, I walked over to Rådhuspladsen and stepped into The Scottish Pub for a beer.

Sitting at a table outside with a cold beer in hand, I felt the weight of the day’s mental exhaustion — all the chaos of trains, buses, and wrangling my bicycle box.

Back in my room on the tenth floor, it didn’t take long before I completely passed out.

The alarm on my phone was set for 08:00…I don t want to miss the breakfast
