Time to leave Sweden

November 10-12
I arrived to Arlanda early morning tired …

My luggage and ”Lill Kentha” supervises that everything goes right

and first thing I did was to check how to handle paymernt for my bicycle. Get told not necessary then time for check-in tomorrow.

Booked a cheap apartment hotel, Forenom close to airport but not accessable until 4pm. Enter a bus to Stocholm just for fun and to pass the time.

Lyko open a new shop at Drottinggatan. Thousands youth show some intrerest

Some problem to get a keycode for my room, but after a bit of a struggle with the staff, my reservation was found.

The room is fresh, clean, and has a view of the airport. I’m enjoying a purchased meal and a beer while watching Doobido. I set the alarm for 06:15 and have decided to have breakfast at Radisson Blue tomorrow morning. The terminal bus also stops right outside their entrance.

View from my hotelroom over Arlanda airport

I fall asleep like a log at 11:30 PM.

The breakfast was great and no problem to terminal 5. I was first in the que and no probs to check in. All of my luggage except the backpack was classified as special luggage, and I had to pay 2213 SEK for the bike! Twice as expensive as when I booked the trip in August.

Best of all I don’t have to worry about the luggage until I land in the world’s southernmost city, Ushuaia. Worth a lot!

The flight was easy and quick and a short taxi trip to my hotel, Main Airport. Tomorrow 10.25 am I’m in the air to Buenos Aires, 12 hours.

Waiting for bording and wathch my bicycle box still intact

Packing, packing cleaning up and more packing

November 10

Outside it is dark and gray; November is the month that most Swedes find challenging. The little snow that has fallen does little to brighten the darkness. ☹️…but soon I will meet my second summer in 4 months!! 🌞 😃

Faresta dressed in autumn fog

Tonight, 22:34, I’m on the train to Arlanda to prepare the flight to Land of Fire and Ushuaia. I have serious anxiety trips. I am looking forward to discovering South America from a bicycle saddle.

The apartment is almost completely empty, with only floor cleaning left to do. . 💓

Dear friends took me for a Salmom dinner at ”Three Bothers restaurant”

Additionally, I have an incredibly kind neighbor who is always there to help when I ask. 👍 He has allowed me to store my furniture and belongings in a large, warm room at a cost that is almost close to free. 😍

On the eve of my departure tonight, I was invited to another dinner, this time by Gordon’s owner, master, and children.

There were drinks, pork with root vegetables and wedged potatoes with whisky sauce, coffee, cookies that the children had made, and then an amazingly good whisky.

Afterward, another dear friend, Enso’s owner, came to drive me and all my luggage down to the train station.
The dog is truly a human’s best friend… and I love dogs

I also prepare my body, legs, fitness, endurance at Studio To Be, a gym and fittness  in central  Örnsköldsvik.  +Four times a week, I sweat, groan, and find the energy to push myself even harder, thanks to my great workout buddies, but especially because of dedicated, motivating, and positive leaders.

Green House Hostel and a flight back to Sweden

8/917
After two rough days in Khorough and five more in Dushanbe, I still don’t feel recovered, and the medicine I brought isn’t enough. On top of that, the healthcare here in Tajikistan is nothing like what you’d expect in Sweden. I even went to a so-called health center in Khorough that others had recommended, hoping they might have some kind of miracle cure.

I showed them my inhaler tubes, but they hardly knew what they were for. After a brief examination, I lay on a wooden couch while a nurse connected a tube to my right arm. I assumed it was some kind of antibiotic, but later found out it was an electrolyte solution.
That was it—I left the health center only a little heavier than when I arrived, the liquid adding maybe a kilo or two. Two days ago, I finally decided that my health comes before my pride and I’m not risking further complications.

The last time I went through something similar was six years ago, that time caused by a cold. Back then, I couldn’t do any physical activity for almost three months, and it took another three before I could train fully again. These days in Dushanbe, Philipp, Beate, and I don’t do much. I mostly rest and plan for the trip home.

The flight from Dushanbe to Frankfurt leaves only once a week, so we have to wait. We’ve also been checking the cost of bringing bikes on the plane, getting different answers depending on who we ask.

Philipp and Beate at airport office

Philipp and Beate completely dismantle their bike after being told  that if it weights less than 7–8 kg,, it’s free, and the extra weight for the rest of the luggage costs less—making it a good deal for them. I pack my bike in a regular bicycle box someone left at the hostel.

Until the flight, there will be plenty of reading, TV, and rest, with some time for relaxing in Dushanbe.

Monument Istiklol Independence Monument, Dushanbe

Today, september 8th. The flight leaves Dushanbe at 22:20 and is scheduled to arrive in Frankfurt seven hours later. With the time difference, we land at eight the next morning.

Check-in is smooth. As soon as we lift off, I put on my eye patches, start the audiobook, and let go. Sleep comes quickly. We touch down in Frankfurt right on time. This is where my journey with Philipp and Beate ends. Philipp’s father is waiting to drive them home to Aachen.

I head in the opposite direction, alone, to find a train north—toward Malmö.

After some hassle and waiting, I finally get a ticket back to Sweden and reached Malmö in the afternoon. I check into the same hotel as after last year’s Turkey trip—Scandic Kramer, just steps from Central Station.

Philipp and Beate at airport office

Malmoe ans Scandic Kramer hotel

First thing, a long shower. Let the road wash off. Clean clothes. Then I head out for a ”walk about”slow walk nearby and a late dinner.

The next day, I take the train to Stockholm, and from there an SJ connection home to Örnsköldsvik.

I don’t think anyone really understands my frustration. I’ve poured so much time, money, planning, and energy into this dream journey—and it breaks apart because I didn’t realize dust could hit me the same way the cold does. That’s a hard thing to swallow.

Now I have to see my doctors, figure out what can be done, rebuild my strength. And then—when I’m ready—I’ll start again. From Khorog, via Osh and  through China.

Despite everything, I’ve been places and experienced things that most people never get close to. Those moments are mine forever. They stay. I was there. I saw it. I lived it.

Spring comes closer, jetted bathtube, fatal calender blunder and ferry to Gdynia

Almost mid April and clear signs of spring are visible but summer still far away.

Cycling on small dirt roads between villages , which I thought was not on the map, but people lives here in the middle of the wilderness.

In Nässjö, I made a short stop for a toilet visit at a ”Resecentrum” then on the saddle again heading Vetlanda, Astrid Lindgrens dear hometown.

The weather still chilly and the dun gloveds are needed. In Nottebäck I turned into a smal road after a sign to a bathing place. Worth to check up, could be a nice place to camp.

Few cabins, a bathing jetty and some small trees close to the lake was a prefect place to camp at.

The last few hours the weather has become more chilly and soon rain is coming.

Campnight at Lake Madkroken, chilly, windy and drizzel

The lake , Madkroken is in rebellion, the waves bump into the beach edge and it´s very chilly so I make my self hefty campfire to warm me up while I’m eating

While drinking coffe and sips a small glass of whiskey it´s start to drizzle. Before I crawl into my down sleeping bag I pulls over my Surley Long Haul Trucker with a bicycle cover.

I woke up early, thoroughly rested and the cold is noticeable, snow in the air. Before I left I tried to eat some breakfast but it was to cold to make a real one. It will be to stop by the road at some suitable tavern.

Mostly of the trip to Smedby was quite easy despite some headwinds

A few stops after the road for coffe and sandwiches I arrived to Smedby which is located 5-6 km from Kalmar just after three o’clock p.m.

Feel like home, have lived, worked and walked with my dogs here for 14 years, and good warm feelings creep in the body.

Looking up Raab’s road 25 and soon I saw a 185 cm long, unshaved Magnus with his big welcome smile and I’m get happy.

Nine years ago since last time here and that time I would ride to Paris, ”Yippee ki-yay”

Lena comes down as happy and charming as I will ever remember her. Their children is not home Yet, they practising tennis and violin.

We had a very nice evening with waffles, church visits, Mexican dinner, late TV, Notting Hill, ice cream and liqueur.

But I’ll never forget the bath in the jetted bathtub, it was heavenly nice.

Warm jetted bath worth waiting for

Had been able to stay in the bathtub for several hours without any problems. They have prepered Aaron’s bedroom for me, Aaron himself sleeping with his sister Lisa. It´s is easter and Good friday morning and after a huge breakfast I took farewell and my plans was to visit some other friends , Joy & Tommy, but I had mixed up the weeks wrong.

My dear friends in Smedby

Joy and Tommy had visitors from north of Sweden so I turned opposite direction and pedaling heading the harbor of Värkö and the ferry to Polen instead.

From Kalmar to the Polen ferry at Verkö, Karlshamn is about 90 km, no problems to managed it on one day.

The weather was nice and not so chilly, traffic almost gone, belive that the motorists had switch the car for the broom to Blockula instead.

Half past 4 p.m I cycled into the ferry terminal to Poland. Now is my Sweden journey finished for this time.
Next time on Swedish soil will be sometime early autumn 2019

I bought my ferry ticket and a bed in a double room and got told the ferry leaves 21:00 and arriving Gdynia 09:45.

While the dark is setting down over Verkö bay I steer up my bicycle the angway.Polen and Gdynia next

Now I leave Sweden for a while

See Yeah from Polen
